As a business person especially a new one, you cannot just start a business without having in mind the goals you want to achieve at regular intervals.
Your case could be that you dont know how to go about it or where to even start from, don’t worry you are in the right place.
Hi everyone my name is Timileyin and in this post i will be talking about 5 key ways to set goals as a young business starter.
When starting a business, some of the things or areas to set goals on are your revenue flow, sales, marketing, business size, market valuation at a later period and so on.
Without having goals to achieve, you will definitely lose focus in the long run because anything and everything will be able to sway you off your business path and you also will lack the mental picture of the future you have for your business.
Once you don’t have any goal for your business, you won’t be able to detect it when things are going haywire .
Here are the ways to go about your business goals
1. Start with a dream
When planning to start a business, there has to be what you intend on achieving. A dream you want to fulfill through your business.
While it’s proper to have these dreams, there has to be a system put in place to ensure that dream is fulfilled.
This is where planning comes in, you need to not only wish for those dreams to come to pass but also take active steps to make them happen.
2. Break those big goals into bits
As a small business, you don’t need to start aiming for big goals instead break those goals into tiny bits such that you can achieve those goals within the time frame you set for yourself.
One thing to note about big goals is that for you to bring them to pass you need to have performed smaller tasks.
Therefore if you have those big goals, set them into bits and spread them out in such a way that is comfortable for you and begin to work towards them.
Those smaller goals for you to achieve that big goals could be to first
- Have and register a business name
- Open a business website
- Work on your sales strategy
- Work on your marketing strategy
3. Set deadlines to complete tasks
As part of the process to completing and achieving your big goals, you need to set deadlines for your smaller business goals and ultimately for those big business goals.
Setting goals for your small tasks will keep you focused, vibrant and awake because for you to move to another task, you need to complete the present one and since those tasks are time bound, the need for you to complete them in time cannot be over emphasised.
This approach to work has been proven to be very effective and also workable.
4. Talk about your goals
Having goals is as important as fulfilling it, your goals can become blurry with time if not taken care of very well and one of the ways to take good care of your goals is by talking about it.
Talking about your goals is a form of reassuring yourself that you are able to fulfill it and it also keeps you focused on your targets.
While talking about your goals, you not only inform yourself, you also inform your other team members and it gives them a clue to what they are to achieve and how important it is to the team.
5. Don’t delay
While working on your business and goals, you need to be aware of a very important factor of failure and setbacks and that is procrastination.
Just as the popular saying goes, “procrastination is the thief of time”. You need to be conscious of your time and what you do with every passing second because every time costs something in the world of business.
