Entrepreneurs or business owners have a lot going on and business trips are a part of it. As an entrepreneur, you have to stay mobile and when I say mobile you have to be up and running because many at times, no one can do your business to the best of your satisfaction than you.
One of the ways you can be mobile as an entrepreneur is going on business trips which mean you have a lot going on from meetings, to signing of deals or contracts, to visiting other branch locations as so on.
While doing all these, there are bound to be sometimes when you feel inefficient due to the bulk of activities on your plate. To remain on top of your game in spite of the numerous activities , you need to plan adequately. This is what I will be putting you guys across today.
HINT : PLANNING IS CRUCIAL
Let’s assume that you have a presentation to make to an investor in another country, you can’t just wake up, dress and head there, you have to first get the appointment with the investor, choose a date and a venue then you can start reviewing your business plan and any other document that will be needed or that was requested.
After doing those, you can then make your travelling arrangements.
BELOW ARE SOME OF THE BASICS YOU SHOULD GET IN ORDER BEFORE DEPARTING FOR THE BUSINESS TRIP
SET A REMINDER ON YOUR CALENDER
This is one of the crucial things to do before departing for any business trip, make sure you add the event day to your calendar reminder.
Now this is what I advice you to do, set an every one week reminder to always keep you informed and also a check list reminder that indicates the things to do before the set date. i.e ( let’s say the meeting is on the 27th of may, you can set a reminders on these days, 20th of may, 13th of may, 6th of may and so on).
One other reason why you should set it as a reminder on your calender is that it helps you set your availability with others and plan your trip accordingly. This means that you can relate to your visitors when you will be available and when you will not.
To set up a calendar for it, you can use Apple calendar, Google calendar and Microsoft Calendar for it. Give them a try and you can then pick the one you prefer using.
BOOKING FLIGHTS AND HOTELS
One of the main attributes of an entrepreneur is being able to spend less and save more. This attribute comes into play when booking for flights and hotels.
When booking for flights, book direct flights and not connecting flights. Now direct flights may not be less expensive as connecting flights, but they sure will save you a lot of time and you know that time is money.
As for the hotels, book an hotel close to the venue of the trip you are going for, this will save a lot of travel time and stress.
When preparing for your trip, you need to carefully select your luggage, pick the ones that will be needed and not stuff your bag or brief case with junk. The basic things that should be there should be your business clothes, office gadgets and toiletries.
You can also plan with some travel apps like Tripit , Packpoint , Lyft, Kayak or Citymapper.
GET YOURSELF AWARE WITH THE LOCATION
Before heading for your trip, do some research on the location of the event and research in the aspect f knowing the distance of your hotel from the airport, what type of businesses are prominent around there? How to get there from your hotel ? . This will help you move around more smoothly and confidently.
PUT YOUR BUSINESS IN GOOD HANDS
While leaving for your trip, you need to hand over the affairs of your business to a very able hand. You should also communicate the development to other staffs of the business to keep them in tune as to who to report to for the time being.
BE DEDICATED TO YOUR WORK AND BE STRICT TO YOUR SCHEDULE
One of the most difficult things to do in entrepreneurship and business is to start. You have more than enough reason not to start but to keep postponing and complaining but if you can just start irrespective of those feelings, in no time you’ll get used to it and won’t even feel the stress to do it everyday .
Not being strict to your schedule is about writing down your to-do-list and making sure that you follow them accordingly because if you do not have them or follow them, you’ll eventually be overwhelmed with the workload of your business.
